The Trust is working with the Waikato Ballance Farm Environment Awards (BFEA) Committee to operate a regional awards programme in 2020/21, subject to it being deemed safe to do so.
This committee has secured independent funding which enables it to run a Waikato BFEA programme while the remainder of our regional programmes are on hold as a result of COVID-19 disruptions.
Entries for the Waikato BFEA are open until 6 November 2020 - please click here to enter.
Field days are normally held at the property of Regional Supreme Winners shortly after each region's awards announcement, however most 2020 field days have been postponed due to COVID-19.
Subject to it being safe to do so, we are planning to hold regional field days at the properties of the 2020 Ballance Farm Environment Awards Regional Supreme Winners before June 2021.
The annual Ballance Farm Environment Awards programme will not be held in 2021 due to COVID-19, which means no call for entries in 2020. The exception is Waikato which has secured independent funding to run a 2021 awards programme.
Subject to it being deemed safe to do so, we are planning to launch a revamped Ballance Farm Environment Awards programme in early 2021.
In the meantime, the Trust will continue to highlight the innovation and good farming practices of New Zealand’s food producers through a range of channels.
At the National Sustainability Showcase, we'll award the Gordon Stephenson Trophy to one of our 2020 Regional Supreme Winners, with the recipients becoming national ambassadors for sustainable farming and growing.
The trophy is separate to the regional awards programme and judged under a different criteria.
