It is with great pleasure that Environment Canterbury continues to support the Ballance Farm Environment Awards.

In Canterbury, these awards are central to recognising and celebrating the efforts that many in our community make towards undertaking and promoting sustainable farming practices in the region.

Local winners demonstrate that good environmental management is good for business. Achieving sustainable use of resources while maintaining a farm’s day-to-day demands is vital for the future prosperity of the region. All entrants are to be commended for their efforts.

The success of the on-farm field days held following the awards’ conclusion demonstrates farmers are always keen to learn new approaches.

The environmental challenges facing Canterbury farmers are numerous, and the public interest in their activities intense. Environment Canterbury is working with the community to tackle the challenges of sustainable land and water use and these awards provide an important focus for that work. We are proud to be involved with these awards.
